The 2017-2018 Parent Caring Organization Executive Board
2017-2018 PCO President-
Nichole Shabazz was elected as President-elect in the 2016-2017 school year election. She is the aunt of 7th grader Brooklynn and is an educator, a certified teacher leader, K-12 librarian and literacy advocate. Nichole has a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum & Instruction, an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership and is working on her PhD in Instructional Design. Currently, she is writing a book on engaging boys of color in public and school libraries.
PYP Liaison – Bridgett T Berry – Bridgett is the parent of Sydney M. McIntosh (rising 2nd grader). Bridgett currently holds a MSW and is a licensed clinical social worker. She is a therapist and clinical care coordinator with BEECHBROOK where she coordinates interdisciplinary treatment teams and collateral resources for each client. Bridgett has served as room parent for the past 2 years. NEW POSITION – parent represents, communicate issues and needs of grades K-5.
MYP Liaison – Mica Job – Mica is a MYP parent and Advocacy Subcommittee member. NEW POSITION – parent represents, communicate issues and needs of grades 6-8.
High School Liaison – Nikita Z. Boyd – Nikita is an educator and is also the parent of Lonneyah N. Greer, a 9th grader, and Nikiah D. Greer, a 6th grader. She has also served as a CIS room parent. NEW POSITION – parent works with new High School staff and student body to eventually establish a new High School PCO group.
CIS+ Chair(s) – Cathryn Siegal-Bergman and Sarah Gyorki– Cathryn is the mother of Henry Bergman (1st grader). Cathryn has a MA and works as a non-fiction literary translator. She is starting her own publishing company as a vehicle for her own hand-picked translation projects. Sarah is the mother of Jane (3rd grade) and Emma (8th grade). She has helped develop the CIS+ after school program and is the founding director of what is now Waterloo Arts, she also consults with multiple non-profit organizations. NEW POSITION – Work with school, outside orgs to provide after-school programs for students.
Fundraising Chair(s)– Paul Kukla – Father of Parker (2nd grader) and Logan (4th grader) has developed and run Dance-a-thon fundraiser, Field Day Mud Run fundraiser and helped develop CIS+ after school program.
School Events Chair(s) – Janel Taylor & Rosa Young – Rosa has three boys is originally from Puerto Rico and is fluent in both English & Spanish. Rosa has a degree in human services, working on a BA in social work /Janel is the mother of Javier Steen (3rd Grader) and is an art educator at East Prep Academy. Janel teaches Ceramics at Rainy Institute. She also runs a clothing brand named J.Taylor that specializes in custom clothing and alterations.
Treasurer – Joy Thomas — Mother of Lomax (4th grader) and Lothario (8th grade) is the Accounting Manager at Huntington Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation and owns her own accounting firm – Vision Financial Services. Joy has a BA in accounting and is working on her CPA license.
Secretary – Kim Palmer — Mother of Simone (2nd grader) is a journalist with and an OSU alum. Kim is working to revamp PCO/CIS’s online presence and digital parent/school communication.
Advocacy Chair – Michelle Lassiter— Mother of Sidney Reese (5th grader). Michelle has a MBA, works as an adjunct Business professor at Cuyahoga Community College, Remington College. She is working towards her Nursing Home Administrator License to advocate on behalf of the aging population.
Parent/Teacher Liaison Chair(s) – Ashley Taseff & Jessica Merugu — Ashley has three CIS students (Alta 3rd grader, Mather 2nd grade and Case a Kindergartener) and is a freelance graphic designer, SAHM and Ohio City community member. Jessica is the mother of Kai (3rd grader) is a school counselor, adjunct professor and Ohio City community volunteer.
